Lena Moore is an Information Technology and Management Information Systems major who exemplifies focus, leadership, and grit. Originally from Houston, she came to Wichita State to pursue a degree that would challenge her technically and personally. The Barton School’s balance of hands-on experience and industry partnerships immediately stood out to her.
Lena’s campus involvement is extensive. She serves as Social Media Manager for the Management Information Systems Club, where she helps connect students to career opportunities in technology. As a member and former co-captain of the Shocker Racing Formula SAE Team, she managed public relations, sponsorships, and team operations for national competitions. She also volunteers with the WSU Community Service Board, combining her technical and people skills to support local initiatives.
Her most meaningful experience as a Barton student was her internship with Textron Aviation. Working as an LDP Security Analyst allowed her to apply her coursework directly to business processes, documenting systems and helping improve efficiency. Receiving a full-time offer after the internship validated her effort and confirmed that Barton students graduate ready to lead.
Lena draws inspiration from her mother, whose perseverance as a single parent taught her the value of hard work and independence. Outside the classroom, Lena enjoys travel and once studied abroad in Barcelona alone to challenge herself and experience new cultures.
Being named one of Barton’s 25 Under 25 honors Lena’s dedication to learning and leadership. Her story reflects determination and the belief that technology is a powerful tool for positive change.
