Nakyia Pierce is a marketing major whose ambition is matched by purpose. As a first-generation Shocker and the third oldest of nineteen siblings, she has learned to lead through both example and determination. Nakyia chose the Barton School of Business after discovering its welcoming environment and emphasis on creativity and connection. These are core values that have guided every step of her journey.
At Wichita State, Nakyia serves as President of the Epsilon Alpha chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., captain of The Golden Heat Majorette team, and a member of the Black Student Union. She is also a Shocker Promise Scholar and Mentor, as well as the current titleholder of Miss Black from the Miss Black and Old Gold Pageant. Each role reflects her commitment to uplifting others and to representing the Barton community with pride.
Her most meaningful experience at Wichita State has been being named one of Barton’s 25 Under 25. For Nakyia, it symbolizes years of dedication and sacrifice, and it confirms that her hard work has left a mark on the university she loves.
After graduation, Nakyia plans to pursue a master’s degree in marketing, focusing on event and email strategy, and later attend law school. She hopes to combine creative communication skills with legal expertise to become a strategic and innovative leader in the industry.
The concept of generational wealth deeply inspires her, fueling her commitment to education and financial empowerment. Her story represents the strength of ambition and the impact of creating opportunities for those who follow.
Being selected as one of Barton’s 25 Under 25 is both a celebration and a responsibility for Nakyia. It reflects her growth, her faith in hard work, and her belief that education has the power to transform lives.
