Lucas Hulett, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, is classically trained in trombone, euphonium, and tuba and maintains an active performing and teaching career. He has appeared as a euphonium soloist with the University of North Carolina Charlotte Wind Ensemble and the Charlotte Civic Orchestra, and as a jazz tenor and bass trombonist, he has shared the stage with artists including Dick Oatts, Brad Leali, Scott Wendholt, Mike Steinel, Jeff Coffin, Harold Danko, Terell Stafford, Jim Riggs, Cyrus Chestnut, and Paul McKee.

After completing his undergraduate studies, Hulett devoted his time to music education. He worked as a traveling educator leading brass classes, giving pedagogical presentations, serving as a brass caption head in the marching arena, and maintaining a private teaching studio. At night, he performed extensively as a jazz and salsa trombonist, most notably with Orquesta Mayor, a Latin ensemble that backed renowned artists such as N’Klabe, Maelo Ruiz, Jerry Rivera, Tito Puente Jr., Choco Orta, Yan Collazo, Ismael Miranda, Tito Nieves, Luis Enrique, and Luis Filepe Gonzalez.

Hulett was a founding member of Buzz City Brass, a show band and mini corps for the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets, where he served as music director, arranger, and tubist. He also co-directs Intrepid Brass, a multi-location quintet performing across the Charlotte and Wichita areas for schools, recitals, and private events.

His playing can be heard on several albums, including All Kinds of Good by Martin Musaubach (2017), which received the Indie Golden Melody Award for Best Jazz Album. Additional appearances include Orquesta Mayor (2018), Daydream (2018), and Pocket Language (2016), along with numerous studio projects out of Tropic Culture Studios in Cornelius, North Carolina.

Hulett holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a Master of Music from Wichita State University.
