Dr. Katelyn H. Peterson is an Assistant Professor of Music Education and Associate Director of Choral Activities at Wichita State University. She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Choral Conducting from the University of Iowa in 20215, where she conducted the Voxman Chorale and Camerata Singers, taught undergraduate choral conducting, and pursued secondary emphases in Music Education and Voice Performance.

Prior to her doctoral studies, Peterson received her Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee in 2022, studying with Dr. Zachary Durlam and conducting Alta Voce and opera choruses. She also holds a Bachelor of Music Education with emphases in Choral and General Music from the University of Wisconsin–River Falls, along with a minor in Theatre.

With over a decade of K–12 teaching experience, Peterson has served in the Milwaukee Public Schools, River Falls School District, and New Richmond School District. Her research explores culturally appreciative pedagogy in collegiate choral rehearsals, the application of cognitive apprenticeship models in choral settings, and the historical development of the choral spiritual.

Beyond her academic and research pursuits, Peterson has held leadership roles in several professional organizations, including serving as Website Manager for the Midwestern American Choral Directors Association. She has also contributed to the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association, Wisconsin School Music Association, and St. Croix Music Educators Association. A passionate theater enthusiast, she has directed numerous plays and musicals for middle and high school students as well as community theatre.
