Dr. Jacy Pedersen is assistant professor of music theory at Wichita State University. She earned her Ph.D. in music theory from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in 2023.

Her primary research explores acts of rebellion in music composed by women in the Soviet Union. Her work uses an interdisciplinary methodology that combines music theory with gender studies, literary theory, dramatic analysis and Slavic studies. In addition to her research on Soviet-era music, she also specializes in the study of film and video game music.

Dr. Pedersen has presented her research at conferences both nationally and internationally, including the International Musicological Society, the Society for Music Theory, the North American Conference on Video Game Music and Music and the Moving Image.

An active composer, Dr. Pedersen’s recent works include False Awakenings for solo horn, Solkatt for full orchestra and the song cycle Eight Threats, commissioned by OLEA Ensemble.
