Overview
Flute
Alaina Clarice is assistant educator of flute at Wichita State University. Prior to this appointment, she served on the flute faculty at Eaast Texas A&M University and maintained a large private studio in the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
As a performer, Clarice has distinguished herself as a solo and chamber musician. She made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2018 as a first prize winner of the Golden Classical Music Awards International Competition and was recently awarded second prize in the Alexander & Buono Flute Competition. In 2023, she performed Hisatada Otaka’s Flute Concerto with the University of North Texas Orchestra as a winner of the William Gammon Henry Concerto Competition. She has also participated as a flute apprentice at the National Music Festival and as a fellowship recipient at the Mostly Modern Festival, performing both standard and newly composed solo, chamber and orchestral works.
Clarice can be heard on albums featuring the music of Kory Reeder, released on record labels throughout the United States and abroad. She is also a member of the professional flute quartet Vox Venti, whose performances highlight works by living and underrepresented composers. Her involvement has led to performances and presentations at events including the Bowling Green New Music Festival, SEAMUS, Texas Flute Festival, National Flute Association, Florida Flute Association and Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention.
In addition, Clarice has served on the board of the Texas Flute Society and is currently the High School Flute Choir Competition coordinator for the National Flute Association. She earned a Bachelor of Music from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and a Master of Music from Bowling Green State University and is a doctoral candidate at the University of North Texas. Her teachers include Terri Sundberg, Conor Nelson, James Scott, Elizabeth McNutt, Amy Taylor, Shelly Monier and Kristen Hammiel.
