Overview
Dr. Greg Hand has served as dean of the College of Health Professions at Wichita State University since August 2020.
Prior to coming to Wichita State, Hand served as professor of epidemiology, medicine and physical activity and sports sciences at West Virginia University. He also served as the founding dean of West Virginia University’s School of Public Health, and previous to that role, he was the associate dean for Research, Practice and Information Technology at the University of South Carolina’s School of Public Health.
Hand is internationally recognized for his work on physical activity and health. He has published over 140 scientific articles and book chapters. His work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, United States Health and Human Services agencies, the American Heart Association, and numerous foundations and corporations.
Hand's experience in community health includes developing community-based programs focusing on health issues from tobacco cessation and use prevention, maternal child health education, childhood obesity prevention, to expanding access to vaccinations for children. He also has clinical/medical experience, having completed emergency medical technicican training at the EMS Academy in Albuquerque, N.M.
Hand has an undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada - Las Vegas in Art History and a Master of Public Health from the KU School of Medicine. He holds a Ph.D. in Community Psychology from Wichita State University.
