Wichita Literacy Coalition

The PPMC is a key partner in bringing together the Wichita Literacy Coalition, comprised of various stakeholders, to create and implement a collective plan to increase kindergarten readiness for children and families experiencing the greatest need.

Who We Are

Mission:

To support community partners in their efforts to create equitable access to awareness, education, and wellness services, establishing a foundation of Kindergarten Readiness for children from birth to age five.

Vision:

To be the trusted ecosystem of community partners of the greater Wichita area, empowering children to thrive in the classroom and in life.

Audience:

The WLC supports healthcare and early childcare services providers, educators, elected officials, and the business community so that they can better serve families.

Policies and Programs

Mission:

Cultivate a collective understanding of statewide Kindergarten Readiness standards to drive lasting change in early childhood programming and policies

Access and Awareness

Mission:

Create awareness of early literacy’s impact on academic success, championing citywide investment in communities and families of greatest need and their access to early childhood services

Current projects:

Created and distributed over 10,000 copies of Kindergarten Readiness checklist and over 8,000 copies of reading log brochures in multiple languages
Supporting efforts by Storytime Village to create universal early literacy curriculum for childcare providers across the state
Building communication plan for early literacy awareness campaign
