This is a list of frequently asked questions by potential and current students with DACA and/or undocumented status.

How do I apply for admission at Wichita State University?
DACA and undocumented individuals apply at Wichita State University the same way that domestic undergraduate and graduate students apply.
Do I need a social security number to apply for admission and scholarships?

A Social Security Number (SSN) is not required for admission and scholarship eligibility. However a SSN, U.S. permanent residency or citizenship may be required to apply for federal financial aid or to take advantage of federal education tax credit/incentives.

I have a DACA temporary social security number; can I use it to complete the FAFSA®?

Pursuant to federal law, a student must be a U.S. citizen or national, a citizen of the Freely Associated States, a lawful permanent resident, or other eligible noncitizen to be potentially eligible for federal student aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form. 

I am a US Citizen but my parents are undocumented, am I eligible to apply for federal financial aid?

Yes. Students who are a U.S. citizens are eligible for federal student aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form. Dependent students must provide contributor information even if they are without a Social Security number.  For more information on the legal protections for data collected through the FAFSA® and FSA ID process, see the privacy policy for Federal Student Aid.

As a DACA student, am I eligible for on-campus jobs and internships?
Yes, if your temporary work permit and social security card are current, they can be used to apply for internships, on-campus and off-campus employment. However, DACA students are not eligible for the Federal Work-Study Program because it is awarded through FAFSA®.
Will Wichita State University share my immigration status with the federal government?

No.  Wichita State University does not release student records without written consent from the student or a lawfully issued subpoena, warrant or judicial order. Immigration status is part of the student record that is protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).  

Are there majors not available to undocumented students?
Wichita State University offers all students, regardless of citizenship status, the same majors and degrees. However, some programs lead to internships, licensures, certifications or employment that require a social security number. Undergraduate students should contact an academic advisor and graduate students should contact their program advisor to discuss these programs.
