What to Expect
As a new transfer student, you'll complete New Student Orientation and meet with an academic advisor before enrolling in classes. At orientation, you'll learn about WSU resources, academics, student services, and ways to get connected on campus. Your first semester is also a good time to learn how to use myWSU, Navigate360, Blackboard, and DegreeWorks — four systems you'll use throughout your time at WSU.

Understanding Your Schedule
Your class schedule tells you what courses you're taking, when and where they meet, and who is teaching them. You can view your schedule through Navigate360, including meeting times, locations, and instructor information. Use your schedule alongside the WSU academic calendar to keep track of important dates such as the start of classes, enrollment periods, and deadlines to drop or withdraw from a course.

Finding Your Classes
New campus? No problem. Use WSU's campus map to find your building before your first day. We recommend giving yourself extra time during your first week to locate your classrooms and figure out your route between classes.

Academic Advising
As a transfer student, you'll work with an academic advisor in the college that houses your major. Your advisor can help you understand how your previous coursework applies to your degree, choose courses, review your degree progress, and plan future semesters. New transfer students should schedule a Shocker Connection advising appointment with their college.

DegreeWorks
DegreeWorks is your degree audit tool. You can access it through myWSU to see how your completed and current courses are applying toward your degree requirements. You can also use the Look Ahead feature to explore how future courses could fit into your degree plan. Check DegreeWorks regularly and talk with your advisor if something doesn't look right.

Blackboard
Blackboard is WSU's online learning management system. Most WSU courses use Blackboard for course materials and other class activities. Once your courses are available, check Blackboard regularly for your syllabus, assignments, announcements, course content, and grades.

Shocker Learning Center
You don't have to wait until you're failing a class to get academic support. The Shocker Learning Center offers tutoring and Supplemental Instruction, including one-on-one tutoring and small-group support. You can request tutoring through myWSU or Navigate360, and some courses offer Supplemental Instruction through Blackboard.

Success Coaches
Success Coaches are available to help you navigate WSU — not just your classes. They can help you build academic habits, manage your time, set goals, connect with campus resources, and create a plan when you're feeling overwhelmed. Appointments can be scheduled through Navigate360.

Time Management & Study Resources
Your first semester is a good time to figure out how you actually study best at WSU. Student Success offers resources for developing study skills and time-management strategies, including the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI) and support from Success Coaches. Navigate360 also includes a Study Buddies feature that can help you connect with classmates who want to study together.

Academic Policies
WSU has academic policies and deadlines that can affect your enrollment and progress toward your degree. Keep track of the academic calendar including deadlines for adding, dropping, or withdrawing from courses. You can also review WSU's academic policies, catalogs, grading information, and other Registrar resources.
