Family Weekend

Wichita State University Student Engagement, Advocacy and Leadership invites you to attend the annual traditions celebrated by hundreds of family members, Family Weekend.

Bring your families to campus for a fun filled weekend at Wichita State University! Family Weekend includes events and activities that family and friends can choose to participate in at their own leisure. Everyone participating in any Family Weekend events must be registered. Registration to Family Weekend includes exclusive access to special events and programs designed to integrate you and your families into the Shocker Experience! Registration Opens July 14!

Registration Includes:

  1. One (1) Parking Pass for the Family
  2. Official Family Weekend Shirt for each guest (each WSU student gets a free registration)

Al La Carte:

  1. Extra Shirt: $5.00/shirt

7:00 p.m. Charles Koch Arena

Cheer on the Wichita State Shockers at their first home game in Charles Koch Arena. Registered families can get a discount on the tickets to $4/person when you register for Family Weekend (students will be free with a Student ID)

Tee Off Family Weekend with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
12:00 p. m. - 2:00 p.m. Starting place:

Lindquist Hall, 1st Floor Lobby

The Fairmount College, Tee Off Family Weekend will introduce students and their families to the eighteen academic department through activities found in the ten campus buildings.  There will be challenges, quizzes, information, refreshments, and prizes for completing the course. Do not worry these activities will not be rough, but as you step out on the green campus get ready to be in the zone with Liberal Arts and Sciences.  End your tour in Lindquist Hall for the 19th hole with iced tea, snacks, information, and conversation about how you can “Become More” with a degree offered in the Fairmount College.”

Calling all College of Engineering Families! Join current students, faculty, and staff for family fun at the John Bardo Center! The expo will include fun hands-on engineering activities for family members of all ages, and tours of the John Bardo Center, which is home to many of our state-of-the-art labs. Light refreshments will be provided.

Calling all College of Health Professions Families! This event will include simulations for families to interact with through the schools of nursing and audiology. In addition, free blood pressure checks and an activity on germs (Germs: How prevalent are they?) will all be available.

Come explore the world of competitive gaming at our very own Esports Hub! Try your hand at some of the games that our varsity student-athletes compete in as well as numerous fun and fast minigame stations. Additionally, learn about the College of Applied Studies and all that it has to offer. Giveaways will be available for all those attending!

Calling all Honors College Families! Fun for the whole family! Come and enjoy frozen drinks, a photo booth, and Karaoke. Student ambassadors will be available to talke with families, answer questions, and provide information about the Honors College--all while having fun!

President's Garden Tour
2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. The Residence of Dr. Richard Muma

Join us at the residence of President Richard Muma and Rick Case. Enjoy walking on the grounds of this home built in 1939. The front lawns have been the site of many university outdoor events throughout the years. The President and First Gentleman enjoy gardening and hosting visitors in the beautiful landscaped areas around the residence. Light appetizers and a special giveaway and all those fun family garden photos!

The Shirley Beggs Ballroom

Wichita State alumni parents and grandparents of currently enrolled students are invited for a special Legacy Dinner to welcome current Wichita State students into the Shocker family. Be a part of this new Shocker tradition, which honors past and present Shockers, and celebrates the ties that bind your family to ours.

Campus Fued
7:00 p.m. CAC Theater

Just like Family Feud, Campus Feud brings together two teams of five to compete against each other with campus themed trivia questions. There are three rounds, each round is played with a new team allowing as many people who wish to play to get their chance. Winners from each round will choose from a variety of gift cards from businesses like Amazon, Target, and Starbucks. This event is open to everyone: families, friends, and individuals are all welcome and encouraged to participate. Campus Feud is a featured progam during Family Weekend where families of students are invited back to campus for the full Shocker Experience.

NHL Hockey Exhibition

The city of Wichita has been chosen to host an NHL exhibition game between the Arizona Coyotes and St. Louis Blues. Family Weekend attendees can enjoy special pricing if tickets are purchased in advance.

Flying
The Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport is the closest commercial airport to WSU. All necessary hotel accommodations for out-of-town guests should be made early to guarantee reservations.

Driving
Wichita is centrally located in the State of Kansas and is located off of I-135, I-35, and K-96.
