Leadership Development Programs

Student Engagement, Advocacy & Leadership offers a wide variety of experiences for you to enhance your leadership skills and prepare you for whatever your future may bring. Apply your newfound knowledge to a student leader position, internship, or score that first post graduation job. 

Leadership Program formats vary and include 8-week programs, multi-day institutes, and individual programs. Each program is offered for free to WSU students! Applications are required for participation in all programs.

Shocker Leadership Experience (SLE)

The 2024 Shocker Leadership Experience (SLE) educates and inspires students on the process of becoming multidimensional leaders by identifying, understanding, enhancing, and developing their personal leadership capabilities. SLE is a 5-day, 4-night overnight experience designed for novice leaders looking to discover their leadership potential! This year the experience will be hosted at the Rock Springs 4-H camp in Junction City, KS from May 13th-17th, 2024. All transportation, food, lodging, and t-shirt are all included for free.

Topics include:

  • Leadership power and influence
  • Group identity and culture
  • Building community
  • Developing personal and professional vision

Immersive Leadership Institute (ILI)

The Immersive Leadership Institute (ILI) is a 4-day leadership experience at WSU for new Shockers looking to get a head start on their campus engagement experiences and grow their leadership skills before classes begin! ILI is great for students with any level of leadership experience that are ready to make connections and get involved from day 1 of their college experience! Participants will not only walk away with the knowledge and tools to apply their unique values, experiences, and leadership styles more effectively but will also earn college credit for attending!

This program will be hosted the week before classes begin. Students living on campus must be moved in prior to August 12.  Students participating in ILI must have also completed Freshman Orientation prior to attending this program. 

Registration for the Immersive Leadership Institute is $75. The program fee will be used as a scholarship for each participant that completely covers the cost of enrollment in EDUC399A: Leadership in Student Groups. Space is limited. Registration will remain open until all spots are filled and will close on Friday, August 4.
