Tuition Assistance

Tuition assistance is offered to qualified members of the armed forces. Each branch of the armed forces manages tuition assistance independently through separate programs offered through branch-specific online portals and military education centers.

Active Service members who plan to use Tuition Assistance are required to speak with their Educational Services Officer (ESO) or Education Counselor according to their Military Service Branch prior to enrolling.

• Army and Air National Guard: Kansas Army and Air National Guard are also eligible for State Tuition Assistance through the Kansas Board of Regents.
• Air Force: Visit the Air Force's Education and Training page.

• Space Force: Visit the Space Force's Education page.
• Navy: The Navy uses the Navy College Program, which also supports the U.S. Marine Corps and Coast Guard.
• Coast Guard: Coast Guard tuition assistance program.
• U.S. Marine Corps: The U.S. Marine Corps education page. Applications must be submitted via the Navy College Program at least 60 days before class starts.

Each military branch carries its own guidelines. Check with your service's education office before starting your degree program.

Military Tuition

All military-connected students including Service Members, Dependents, Veterans, Retirees, and Department of Defense/War civilian employees, who enroll in one of the seven degree programs available through the WSU at McConnell Campus (link provided to view programs), as stated on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between McConnell AFB and WSU. This rate is the standard university undergraduate tuition rate with NO fees. Currently, the undergraduate tuition rate can be found by clicking on the link provided below. Please note that eligibility is determined by the Military Education Specialist, who is located in the WSU at McConnell Office on McConnell AFB. All other degree programs will require students to pay their college and university fees. The M.E.S. is happy to provide more information as requested.

Military Service Scholarships

In addition to VA educational benefits, there are also Military Service scholarships, as well as Federal and State Tuition Assistance programs available. More information on these other opportunities can be found at the bottom of this page.

Kansas Board of Regents Military Service Scholarship

The Kansas Military Service Scholarship is available for the payment of tuition and fees at a public Kansas institution for students who are a resident of Kansas and has either (a) served in military service in international waters or on foreign soil in support of military operations at least 90 days after September 11, 2001, or served less than such 90 days because of injuries during such military service; (b) has received an honorable discharge or under honorable conditions (general) discharge from military service or is still in military service; and (c) has provided copies of military discharge papers (DD-214 form) or active duty orders whichever such paper or order indicate the location of such person's deployment and indicate the person has served after September 11, 2001, in any military operation for which the person received hostile fire pay. Because financial need is a priority in awarding this scholarship, students will need to file a FAFSA form. Once your school considers you as a graduate status student, you are not eligible for this scholarship.

Federal Military Tuition Assistance

The Armed Forces offers soldiers, sailors, marines, guardsman, and airmen several programs to support their education goals including up to 100% Tuition Assistance for college courses taken during off-duty hours.

Kansas Board of Regents National Guard Educational Assistance

The Kansas National Guard Educational Assistance provides up to 100% of tuition and fees that leads to the award of a certificate, diploma or degree upon satisfactory completion of course work requirements for enlisted members of a Kansas Air/Army National Guard unit. Full-time enrollment not required. Student must have a GED or high school diploma to qualify for this assistance. The member must have less than 20 years of service with the National Guard and not already have obtained a bachelor's degree.
