All the traditional October signs nearing tipoff are present for Wichita State basketball.
Full practices started this week for the men’s and women’s teams. The Shocker Sound Machine and WSU Spirit Squads are preparing to show off at Shocker Madness. It is almost time to walk into the Koch Arena concourse, feel the buzz of fellow fans, smell the popcorn and find your seat.
It starts, as usual, with Shocker Madness. There is an addition to the festivities – fans can show off their shooting and coaching skills.
Shocker Madness and Shocktoberfest
Get your first look at the men’s and women’s teams at Shocker Madness, the annual start to the season, at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 3. Admission is free. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and both teams will sign autographs until 6 p.m.
Shocker Madness is part of Shocktoberfest, a week-long celebration on campus. Saturday’s events before Shocker Madness include Brew Market and the Shocktoberfest Parade.
Shocker Madness features introductions of the basketball teams, a three-point contest, a newly introduced knockout competition, and scrimmages.
New this year are opportunities for fans to participate in various Shocker Madness events.
Fans can enter by scanning QR codes placed throughout the venue and completing an online sign-up form. A random selection of fans will compete in the three-point contest, the knockout competition, the Dynamo Capital "Show Me The Money Shootout,” and serve as honorary coaches during the scrimmage portion of the event.

On Oct. 7, Wichita State’s men’s team plays Murray State at 6:30 p.m., in a charity scrimmage.
Tickets are $20 and are general admission. Proceeds will be split between the Wichita Children's Home and Cheese Johnson's UJUMP.
WSU’s women’s basketball team plays Newman University in an exhibition on Oct. 28.
Tipoff Luncheon
The Shocker Basketball Tipoff Luncheon is at 11:45 a.m., Oct. 23 at Charles Koch Arena.
Fans will have the chance to enjoy a meal and meet members of the men's and women's basketball teams. Tickets are on sale now for $40 each. A table of eight can also be purchased for $250.
