Wichita State University has announced that its new tennis facility will be named the Regine Feilmeier Tennis Complex, recognizing Regine and the Feilmeier family's longstanding commitment to Shocker Tennis and their continued investment in Wichita State's future.
WSU and Family Destination Development (FDD) have officially broken ground on the complex, which will become the future home of Wichita State Tennis and a premier destination for collegiate, amateur and community tennis events.
“Wichita State has always held a special place in our hearts because of its commitment to students and its continued impact on the Wichita community,” said Regine Feilmeier. “Tennis has been a passion of ours for many years, and we have seen firsthand how it teaches discipline, teamwork and confidence. It is incredibly meaningful to be associated with a project that will create opportunities for student-athletes to grow both on and off the court while also serving as a place where families, fans and community members can come together around a shared love of the game.”
The new complex represents a transformational community investment in Wichita State Athletics, providing student-athletes with a championship-level training and competition venue while creating new opportunities for community engagement, regional events and economic impact.
Architectural renderingLocated within the 35-acre Ignite at K-96 development near the K-96 and Greenwich corridor, the six-acre facility will be built to NCAA championship specifications and will feature 12 outdoor courts, six indoor courts, premium team spaces and seating for up to 1,500 spectators.
"Great universities are built by people who see possibility and choose to invest in it," said Wichita State President Rick Muma. "Steve and Regine Feilmeier have been extraordinary champions for Wichita State, and their support continues to help turn ambitious ideas into reality. This complex represents an investment in that forward momentum, and we are proud that the Feilmeier name will be recognized on this new facility.”
Once completed, the Regine Feilmeier Tennis Complex will provide Wichita State's men's and women's tennis programs with modern, consolidated facilities that support year-round training and competition. The complex is designed to elevate the student-athlete experience, strengthen recruiting efforts and position Wichita State among the nation's top collegiate tennis programs.
In addition to serving Wichita State Athletics, the facility is designed to attract major regional and national events, including NCAA and conference championships, junior tournaments, and youth programming through camps and clinics. Its championship-caliber design will further establish Wichita as a sports-tourism destination while generating economic activity and creating new opportunities for the broader community.
The Regine Feilmeier Tennis Complex is the result of a unique collaboration among Family Destination Development, Wichita civic leadership and Wichita State. As a result, the planned complex will be gifted by Family Destination Development to Wichita State upon completion, marking the largest single gift in Shocker Athletic history. Private philanthropic investment will support state-of-the-art technology, training resources and ongoing facility operations, providing flexibility that allows Wichita State to deepen connections between the university and the local tennis community.
“This groundbreaking has shown us what is possible when philanthropy, community partnership and institutional vision come together around a shared goal," said Director of Athletics Kevin Saal. "Regine Feilmeier’s support of Shocker Tennis, along with the generosity of individuals who believe in Wichita State's future, is helping us maximize what is possible with this project.”
