The seventh cohort of Rudd Scholars includes 15 Kansas high schools who have chosen to attend Wichita State University. Each Rudd Scholar will receive a full-ride scholarship, which includes tuition, fees, on-campus housing, and considerable networking and coaching support along the way.

Feb. 15, 2024 - Lexi Jensen enjoys the amenities available in Wichita and the campus environment and academic offerings at Wichita State University. In her first months on campus, she dove into activities such as rowing and the Immersive Leadership Institute.

Nov. 6, 2023 — Wichita State University is home to nearly 5,000 first-generation students, individuals whose caregivers weren't able to complete a college degree and who lack the firsthand experience to tackle college life. To help with their transition, Wichita State offers a number of resources to first-gen students to support them during their time in college, including F1RST GEN SHOCKERS.

Oct. 26, 2023 - Support from the Rudd Scholars program helped Hallie Fritz adjust to college and find internships. She is active in the St. Paul Catholic Student Center and works at Credo Coffee Shop. Oct. 25, 2023 - Wichita State’s Rudd Scholars work with youngsters in the “Bright Lights Educational Enrichment Program” at the Leslie Rudd Learning Center at League 42’s McAdams Park baseball complex. Each afternoon, several of them work on math skills with students in fifth through eighth grade and literacy with students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

Sept. 25, 2023 - Rudd Scholar Bayle Sandy found a sense of community at Wichita State University and enjoyed support from many sources for her academic and extracurricular pursuits. Sept. 19, 2023 - Wichita State student Denae Sawyer spent the spring semester interning remotely with Dzanc Books. Her work consisted of reading and researching to determine if the manuscript fit Dzanc’s standards and sensibility. She also evaluated the potential audience and marketing strategies.

Sept. 14, 2023 - Rudd Scholar Alia Michaelis studied in a hospital in Argentina and works in biochemical research lab while at Wichita State University. Wichita State is proud of its role helping Rudd Scholars pursue passions and realize dreams in the state’s largest city.

March 16, 2023 - Kyan Caudillo is a biology major at Wichita State University and minoring chemistry. His experience working at WSU’s Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory will help him as he studies and prepares to work in the medical field.

March 7, 2023 — The sixth cohort of Rudd Scholars includes 18 Kansas high school seniors who have chosen to attend Wichita State University.

Dec. 12, 2022 — Just in time for the surge of respiratory illnesses flooding the state, Wichita State University’s Molecular Diagnostics Lab has announced it will extend free RSV, influenza and COVID (RIC) testing through March 31, 2023.

Oct. 14, 2022 - Savannah Paschal, a senior Spanish education major at Wichita State, wrote a proposal that helped Alce su voz earn a $75,000 Building Power and Equity Partnership grant from the Kansas Health Foundation. The grant will support civic engagement and the group’s work toward health equity for Spanish speakers and speakers of indigenous languages in Kansas.

Aug. 26, 2022 — Wichita State’s Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences recently received a grant from the National Science Foundation Major Research Instrumentations program (NSF MRI) for a 500 MHz Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectrometer.
