College of Engineering Laptop Buying Guide
Although Wichita State University’s state-of-the-art labs offer all the necessary software and computer facilities for its students, here are some recommended specifications if you will be purchasing a laptop for college.
CPU: Minimum Intel i5 (Ultra 5 or higher recommended but not essential) or AMD Ryzen equivalent
RAM 16 GB Minimum (32 GB Recommended)
Storage: 512 GB Minimum (1 TB Recommended)
Graphics: If you plan to do any 3D modeling or other GPU-assisted workloads (AI and its reliance on CUDA), consider getting a dedicated graphics card, such as Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 or AMD.
While we do not recommend specific brands or models of laptops, MacBooks and Chromebooks are not recommended due to compatability issues with some software programs.
