Most immigrants and their children wanted to be American. They assimilated to the American culture through participation in American activities. They played American sports through Mexican sports teams of baseball, basketball, etc.

The Mexican community sponsored Mexican-American Basketball Touraments starting in 1946 and continuing through the 1960s. The touraments included Queen and a dance often held at downtown venues such as the Broadview Hotel.
