Placement Information
For WSU students majoring in music, the placement process is required unless they have already been placed and received communication from Dr. Katelyn Peterson, the Associate Director of Choral Activities. The choral faculty will determine the suitable large ensemble for all voice majors.
Non-music major students at WSU, have the option to participate in either WuChoir or ShockerChoir without having to go through the placement process. However, if non-majors wish to be considered for Concert Chorale or Madrigal Singers, they will need to complete the placement process.
All students, regardless of major, have the opportunity to apply for placement in any ensemble.
Placement Instructions:
Placements for the 2026-27 academic year will happen during the first week of classes, August 17-20, 2026. Your placement will be in-person in Duerksen Fine Arts Building, room C107.
Placements will include: performing a prepared, unaccompanied solo (around 30-seconds), sight-singing, range check, and tonal memory recall.
The sign-up for placements will be available August 1st.
