Welcome!
Seventy members strong, the Wichita State University Symphony Orchestra is an auditioned
ensemble comprised of undergraduate and graduate students. Students from any academic
discipline with performing experience are welcome to audition. The orchestra has performed
in Carnegie Hall and internationally (Spain, Canada), as well at the Midwest International
Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago and the state conference of the Kansas Music
Educators Association. Recent collaborations include performances with operatic bass
Samuel Ramey, jazz guitarist Pat Metheny, jazz vocalist Tierney Sutton, the classic
rock band Kansas, and the arena multimedia concert Video Games Live.
Symphony Orchestra Auditions
WSU Symphony Orchestra auditions for woodwind and brass students will be held Friday,
August 19. Auditions for string students will be held Monday, August 22. Please see

Program Highlights

and Sixth Symphonies, Brahms’s First Symphony, Stravinsky’s Petrushka Suite, and Shostakovich’s
Sixth Symphony.
