Higher Education Tax Credit (1098-T) and W-9S Information

The form 1098-T is an IRS (Internal Revenue Service) form provided to students who enroll in classes at Wichita State University. The Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 (TRA97) established two education tax credits: the Hope Credit for students enrolled in one of the first two years of post-secondary education and who are carrying at least a half-time workload while pursuing an undergraduate degree; and the Lifetime Learning Credit for students who take one or more classes from a college/university to pursue an undergraduate or graduate degree. Form 1098-T supplies a portion of the information needed by taxpayers to claim the Hope and Lifetime tax credits. By Federal law, this form needs to be mailed to the student by January 31 of each year. In addition, students are able to access the form online and print additional copies as necessary.

By signing up for an electronic 1098-T, you will be able to access it as soon as it is published. Log in to your Student Account Suite to give consent to receive your 1098-T form electronically and to view your 1098-T form.

For those not signed up for an electronic 1098-T, the form will be mailed to the current address that WSU has on file for the student. If the student has moved without correcting the mailing address with WSU, he or she may not receive the form. For information on updating your address, please visit OneStop.

Please note that not all of the boxes on the form 1098-T will contain numbers.
