Campus on McConnell AFB. Both offices are here to help you successfully become a Shocker
and meet your education goals!

Both offices have specialty advising for military-connected students:
Get admitted
Complete an application for admission:

- Visit wichita.edu/admissions to complete the application to Wichita State University.
- Do not pay the fee at this time.
- Contact the WSU at McConnell Campus Office after application submission to determine fee waiver qualification.
Transcripts
All transcripts should be sent directly to the Office of Admissions.

- For 24 or more credit hours, have each academic institution you've attended send a
transcript.
- For less than 24 credit hours, send your final high school transcript or GED score
and any academic institution transcripts.
- For no transfer hours, have your final high school transcript or GED score sent. Go
to ged.com to get your score.
- If you've taken classes at Wichita State, it may be possible to reactivate your file.
This includes transcripts from the Community College of the Air Force and / or Joint Services Transcript.

This two-step process takes 2-6 weeks to complete before you can enroll in classes,
typically dependent on the speed of your transcripts being sent to WSU.

Residency for Tuition Purposes
For military-connected students who don't reside in Kansas, you'll need to complete
a residency form in the Registrar's Office or the WSU at McConnell office.

Tuition Assistance
Each type of funding, Federal Tuition Assistance (TA), State TA, VA Benefits, etc.
requires members to create an account. For more information, visit the education services
/ retention office via your command or one of the WSU Military-Connected Student Services
Offices.

- Each branch of service dictates that servicemembers will need to complete some type
of Tuition Assistance Brief and set up their specific TA account.
- Apply for TA funding once you've seen your WSU Academic Advisor and enrolled in classes
(See Step 4).
- If you're Active-Duty, Reserve, Guard, DOD / NAF Civilian or a Military Dependent,
you may be eligible for a special tuition rate if you're in one of the following degree programs:
- Business Administration
- Cybersecurity
- Information Technology and Management Information Systems (IT & MIS)
- Management
- Organizational Leadership and Learning (OLL)
- Psychology
- Sociology
- All VA Benefits-eligible funding includes Transfer of Entitlement (TOE) for Dependents, State Tuition Assistance, and unclear funding options need to contact
the Military and Veterans Services office for required paperwork and guidance on the
process for WSU.

Scholarships and Grants
Regardless of status, military-connected students have scholarships and grant opportunities.

- All military-connected students need to apply for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Complete a free application and use WSU’s school code (001950).
- If you need assistance filling out the application, make an appointment with a WSU
financial aid advisor by emailing finaid@wichita.edu or calling 316-978-3430.
- Create an account and apply for military-connected scholarships at Military One Source.
- Military One Source has scholarship lists and specific information for spouses at
MyCAA.
- Apply for scholarships within your academic college (e.g. Business, Liberal Arts &
Sciences, Engineering, etc.) by visiting their websites.
Be advised and enroll
If you haven't connected with an Academic Advisor, please contact one of the Military and Veteran Services offices, call OneStop at 316-978-3909 or find an advisor and set up an appointment to enroll in classes.

- All Military-Connected students are required to meet with an advisor prior to enrolling in courses every semester.
- Create an academic plan and get hands-on, personal guidance to help you meet your
academic goals.
- Advisors can help TA students find their Degree Works (Degree Audit) in myWSU that is needed for TA funding.
- VA Benefits students need their advisor to complete an Enrollment Certification Request.
- Some students may be required to take a placement test for English or math.
Sign up for Orientation
Wichita State requires undergraduate orientation for incoming, degree-seeking freshmen,
transfer students and returning or transferring adult learners. Orientation is an
important piece to your transition as a new student in Shocker Nation and one that's
directly connected to your success as a student.

- At Orientation, Transition Mentors will connect you to important people and resources,
help answer any questions you may still have about enrollment, introduce you to campus
life and help prepare you for your first day of classes. WSU Military and Veteran
Services are part of the orientation process.

Requirements for Adult Learners

- Attend the New Shocker Orientation (half-day)
- You can attend an in-person half-day program that provides a deeper introduction to
what being a member of the Wichita State community means and connect with people and
resources designed to help you be successful and enjoy your experience as a Shocker.
Military-Connected Students

- If you're unable to attend New Shocker Orientation in person, you'll have an option
to complete your Orientation requirement by completing WSU's Online Orientation Modules.
- To gain access to the Online Orientation Modules, contact First-Year Programs at first.year@wichita.edu or 316-978-5420.
- If you complete orientation online and would like to tour the WSU campus and obtain
your student ID, contact the WSU at McConnell Campus office to schedule a time.
Non-refundable orientation fees
$50 for students, $25 for guests. Fees are applied after program. Military-connected
students may be eligible for fee waivers.
Student account verification and payment
The final step is to make sure you have everything completed prior to the first day
of classes.

- Check to make sure that your myWSU student account is updated.
- Verify your course schedule under the MyClasses tab

Buy textbooks
- Electronic textbooks will automatically be added to your account, and you'll be responsible
to opt out as needed.
- Visit our bookstore online at the Shocker Store.

Parking
- Check to see if you've added a vehicle in myWSU (upper right-hand buttons - ePermits) if you'll be parking on main campus.
Tuition and fees payment
Payment of tuition and fees must be arranged before you attend classes.

- In myWSU, check your funding under the MyFinances tab (Student Account Suite)
- WSU uses a third-party system for incoming funding sources. Students using VA or TA funds will need to check their accounts throughout the semester.

- Interest-free payment plans and short-term loans are available and can be arranged
in person or online.
