- Wichita East High School
What made you choose Wichita State University?
I chose Wichita State University because of the lower cost of education compared to other schools. I also felt I could receive a good education at Wichita State as a health science major on the pre-med track.
How did scholarships benefit you during your time at Wichita State?
I was awarded the Shocker Promise Scholarship. This scholarship allowed me to graduate college debt-free. I also had support from this program through mentorship and financial resources as I navigated college.
What applied learning experiences did you participate in during your time here?
One of my impactful applied learning experiences was serving as president for the Health Education Advocates for Leadership, Teamwork and Humanity (HEALTH) for the 2025 to 2026 school year.
This organization focuses on a public health initiative and plans activities and events to advocate for its initiative. The past two years, HEALTH's initiative has been food insecurity.
For the past school year, we were able to host two successful events: a food drive for the Kiah Duggins Shocker Support Locker and a campus resource event to educate students on resources available on campus.
We were featured on KSN News because of our work to combat food insecurity on campus as WSU is located in a food desert. I grew my leadership skills from this experience and have transferable skills to my future career.
Another fun applied learning experience I had was studying aboard in Costa Rica during the winter break.
I took a class on Costa Rica's healthcare system and compared the system to the one in the United States. The experience allowed me to apply the information learned through my health science courses and broaden my knowledge of successful healthcare systems internationally. I learned unforgettable lessons on what healthcare means and how this information can help me in the future when I enter the healthcare system as a medical professional.
What advice would you give other Wichita State students?

Getting involved adds so much to your undergraduate experience. You are able to meet new people, make connections with faculty and grow as a person.
What are your plans after graduation?
I will be starting medical school at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City.
