May 8, 2024 — Hundreds of people gathered Wednesday, May 8 to celebrate the start of Phase One construction on the new Wichita Biomedical Campus, a $300 million, 471,000-square-foot joint health sciences center in the heart of downtown Wichita.

May 03, 2024 Christine Cleary was one of Wichita State University’s 2020 Rudd Scholars. From Clearwater, Kansas, she moved to Wichita for college, which required her to adjust to living in a city, but thanks to the Rudd Scholarship, she was able to fully devote herself to college life and will graduate with her bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene.

April 22, 2024 Wichita State University has offered the traditional educational pathways for over 125 years, typically ending at the point of graduation, but the need for learning continues throughout a person’s lifetime. In a rapidly changing world, continuing education has never been more important. More and more jobs require skill-based certification of learning, which includes the attainment of validated durable and technical skills. To meet those needs, WSU was the first in Kansas to create badge courses for non-degree seeking students in 2015, after approval from the Kansas Board of Regents.

Rudd Scholars

The seventh cohort of Rudd Scholars includes 15 Kansas high schools who have chosen to attend Wichita State University. Each Rudd Scholar will receive a full-ride scholarship, which includes tuition, fees, on-campus housing, and considerable networking and coaching support along the way.

Jan. 22, 2024 — The FirePoint Innovations Center at Wichita State University announced it has been selected to deliver Defense Innovation OnRamp Hub programming for the National Security Innovation Network through the newly established Great Plains Mission Acceleration Center, an innovation and collaboration hub designed to connect small businesses, academia and the Department of Defense to support defense-focused technology development.

Nov. 29, 2023 — The first carrier-neutral Internet Exchange Point (IXP) in Kansas is slated to be located at Wichita State University, improving internet access, affordability and speed for WSU, Innovation Campus and Shocker Neighborhood users and for users across much of Kansas.

Oct. 26, 2023 - Support from the Rudd Scholars program helped Hallie Fritz adjust to college and find internships. She is active in the St. Paul Catholic Student Center and works at Credo Coffee Shop. Wichita State is proud of its role helping Rudd Scholars pursue passions and realize dreams in the state’s largest city.

Oct. 25, 2023 - Wichita State’s Rudd Scholars work with youngsters in the “Bright Lights Educational Enrichment Program” at the Leslie Rudd Learning Center at League 42’s McAdams Park baseball complex. Each afternoon, several of them work on math skills with students in fifth through eighth grade and literacy with students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
