Program Auditions and Interviews
All prospective students must audition &/or interview for scholarship consideration & acceptance into their program of interest.
To be accepted into the Dance program as a BA or BFA candidate & to be considered for scholarship opportunities, you must audition. (There is no audition requirement for the Dance minor).
Scholarship, Program Audition & Interview Information
Submit a Video Audition & Schedule an Interview:
- 2-3 minutes of any movement that travels across the floor and incorporates jumps, turns and floor work
- 1-2 minute solo choreographed & performed by the applicant
- Prepare a headshot, short resume & essay explaining your interest in dance as a major at Wichita State University
- Email Professor Denise Celestin to request an interview date and include in the email your video link(s) (include any applicable passwords) along with your headshot, short resume, essay, and request to schedule your interview
Scholarship Consideration
Students interested in being considered for a dance scholarship must audition. You will also need to fill out the Online Scholarship Application Form, & are encouraged to file a FAFSA.
- Deadline:
- February 1 for preferred scholarship consideration.
- March 1 is the final deadline for scholarship consideration
- Program entry is ongoing
Take a Company Class with the Dance Majors:
- All potential students are invited to take a Company class in person.
- Classes are scheduled weekly on Friday's 12:00-1:20 pm.
- Opportunities are ongoing for Fall 2023 and Spring 2024

Prospective Majors Requirements:
- Apply & audition for acceptance into the program and scholarship consideration

- Be prepared for a dance audition to be taught on the spot

- Two contrasting 32 bar musical theatre songs
- One short, memorized monologue
- Headshot
- Resume
Audition Decisions:
- Date is TBD - all prospective Musical Theatre Majors will find out if they have been accepted into the program.

Audition and/or interview for scholarship consideration in theatre programs which includes Acting/Theatre Performance (BFA), Design & Technical Theatre (BFA), and Theatre General Studies (BA). Students interested in the BFA in Theatre Performance program must audition for acceptance.

BFA in Design & Technical Threatre: Students are required to interview. Students are encouraged to share examples of their artistic/show work if available.
BFA in Theatre Performance: Students are required to audition & interview for entry into this program.

Auditions are by video submission. Interviews are in person or virtual.

Submit a Video Audition/Samples of Show Work & Schedule an Interview
- BFA Theatre Performance:
- Submit a self-tape of 2 contrasting monologues of 1.5-2 minutes in length each
- It can be done using your phone
- Use a neutral background if possible (white, blue or gray wall is best) & eliminate cluttered backgrounds
- Record horizontally, not vertically
- Frame yourself in a medium shot - from waist height to slightly above your head
- State your full name & the pieces you are performing (title of play & playwright) at the beginning of your video

- Submit samples of Show Work (pictures of sets, lights, costumes, wigs, props you have
worked on, any stage management paperwork, etc.)
- PDF file (no Word or Pages documents) or double-checked website link

- Request an interview date. Specify if you want to interview in person or virtually.

Theatre Program Areas of Interest:
- BFA in Theatre Performance
- Focuses specifically on the profession of acting
- BFA in Design & Technical Theatre
- Focuses specifically on the professions of design, technology, or backstage work
- BA in Theatre
- Geared toward students with a wide variety of talents & interests who wish to design their own path
- Suitable for interests not covered by the BFA's (such as stage management, Directing, Education)
- Could be combined with a double major or a minor in another field
