Welcome Adult Learners!
We are excited to introduce the Adult Learner Community and Connections program! Our goal is to equip adult learners who are experiencing their first semester or first year at Wichita State with the necessary skills, connections, and resources to confidently begin or continue your college experience. We are committed to fostering a supportive environment where students can develop self-confidence and a strong sense of belonging.
Rooted in Andragogy (or adult learning theory), Adult Learner Community and Connections is a new and innovative approach to ensure adult learners have a smooth and seamless transition into Wichita State University (WSU). This will be accomplished by equipping our students with the necessary skills, connections, and resources to either begin or continue their college experience with self-confidence and a sense of belonging.
ALCC was designed for adult learners who are experiencing their first semester or first year at Wichita State University, although any adult learner at WSU could benefit from it.
ALCC creates a sense of community and belonging among adult learners by connecting them with peer ambassadors in supportive, peer groups. It is also delivered through Blackboard, WSU’s learning management system, and will be grounded in a holistic approach through the creation of 8 interactive online modules built around the components of well-being. This will empower adult learners to better navigate technology with confidence, while also gaining knowledge of, at minimum, 5 commonly used campus resources

Returning to school as an adult can feel intimidating at first, but it’s absolutely worth it. Use your life experience as a strength, lean on campus resources, and give yourself grace along the way."

"Every week is something new. Hard exams, an unexpected bill, long hours, budget cuts, a work injury, etc. I live by it's not my fault, but it is my responsibility. In other words, tomorrow happens with or without me. I keep a good attitude and a growth mindset. Grit is a superpower. I make an effort to show face to everything, not just for my benefit but also for what I represent."
