Guidelines for English Proficiency Certification Letter for Exchange Students

The letter should be printed on University letterhead and include details explaining and attesting to how the exchange student has sufficient proficiency in English to successfully participate in the exchange program on a day-to-day basis at Wichita State University.

Examples of information to include in the letter:

  • Amount of time the student has been taking courses in English at your institution or through another institution.
  • Include academic courses or subject areas the student has taken in English (such as Marketing, Sociology, etc). You would not need to list all courses, however could include a few as examples or from the past semester/year.
  • Explain how the student has demonstrated levels of competency of the English language.
  • Certify that the home institution has approved the exchange student to take academic courses taught in English at WSU.

The letter will need to be emailed with the exchange student application(in one PDF document).
