WICHITA, Kan. – The coaching staff at Wichita State University has filled the selected team roster and picked a developmental team for the 2015-2016 season.

On the women’s side, the coaches added junior Ashlyn Herzberg of Wichita, Kan. to the selected team. Herzberg, who competed on the women’s selected team last year, joins Sydney Brummett (Fort Wayne, Ind.), Estefania Cobo (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico), Hollyann Johansen (Wichita, Kan.), Sierra Kanemoto (Dayton, Ohio), Daria Kovalova (Moscow, Russia), Kristie López (Ponce, Puerto Rico), Laura Plazas (Bogotá, Colombia) and Caitlin Tam (Markham, Canada).

The women’s team features eight returners who finished third at the Intercollegiate Team Championships last April. Cobo is the lone freshman of the group.

“Our returning group made it to the final four last year and many of them had an exciting summer of competition. I look forward to seeing how good we can be as a cohesive, confident team,” assistant coach Mark Lewis said.

Eight members of the 2015 National Championship men’s team return and are joined by four new players to complete the men’s selected team.

Stephen Cowland (Blackbutt, Australia) and Packy Hanrahan (Greenwich, Conn.) return to the selected team after the tryout process. The coaches also selected junior Jack Stewart (Park City, Kan.) and freshman Enzo Hernandez (Manilla, Philippines) to join the selected team for their first time. These four men, along with Brandon Biondo (Carpentersville, Ill.), AJ Chapman (Manchester, Iowa), Tyler Cruz (Tacoma, Wash.), Mitch Hupé (Winnipeg, Canada), Wesley Low (Palmdale, Calif.), Thomas Peters (Belleville, Ill.), Zach Rhoades (Lafayette, Ind.) and Justin Zwaschka (St. Joe, Mo.) make up the men’s team.

“We have some exciting new talent on our men’s squad,” head coach Gordon Vadakin had to say. “As exciting as this feels right now, we lost some highly skilled athletes last year that will be extremely hard to replace. This team has its work cut out for them.”

Coach Lewis and Coach Vadakin also announced the developmental teams for 2015-2016.

Line Berg-Almestrand (Honefess, Norway) Helena Carlsson (Boden, Sweden), Rachel Moe (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), Kayla Ovesny (Norman, Okla.), Shelby Snyder (Spokane, Wash.) and Brooke Woodard (Keller, Texas) will work together on the developmental team this year.

Jonathan Bowman (Peru, N.Y.), Josh Brown (O’Fallon, Ill.), Jason Ciszewski (South Amboy, N.J.), Shawn Curtis (Burgettstown, Penn.), Brandon Martin (Derby, Kan.), Lucas Pejakovich (Godfrey, Ill.) and Colton Ruscetti (Trinidad, Colo.) complete the men’s developmental team.

“Both our developmental teams look to be very talented this season. I’m anxious to see how they perform,” Vadakin said.

The season will kick off with the MidStates Tournament on October 10-11, 2015 in Wichita, Kan. at Northrock Lanes and The Alley.

“MidStates is the first time for the defending national champion men’s team to compete as a new group. In addition, I would think this women’s team feels like it has unfinished business from last April,” Lewis said. “We hope to see a great Shocker crowd next month.”
