Overview
Sarah Taylor earned her graduate degree in Gerontology from Wichita State University and serves as the Director of Undergraduate Programs for the Bachelor of Science in Health Management (BSHM) and Bachelor of Science in Health Science (BSHS) programs. Her teaching focuses on Medicare, careers in healthcare, and the health management practicum, with a strong emphasis on real-world application and student engagement.
She enjoys helping students build the academic and professional skills needed to succeed in clinical degree programs and to thrive beyond graduation. Through mentorship and career-focused instruction, she aims to equip students with the tools to navigate the evolving healthcare landscape and pursue meaningful roles in the field.
Prior to this position Sarah served as the Senior Health Insurance Counseling of Kansas (SHICK) Coordinator at the Sedgwick County Extension Office where she provided education and one-on-one counseling to Medicare beneficiaries in Sedgwick County. Sarah still volunteers with this program each fall during the Medicare Open Enrollment period helping Medicare beneficiaries choose their prescription drug coverage for the next year.
Information
Sarah teaches fully online undergraduate and graduate courses within the Health Management, Health Science, and Aging Studies programs. Current courses include: Careers in Healthcare, Health Management Practicum, and The Medicare System.
Sarah serves as a Retention Faculty Fellow. In this role, she collaborates with other faculty and university support services to promote student success and persistence toward graduation. Retention Faculty Fellows help faculty implement effective teaching strategies, improve student engagement, and identify ways to better support students academically and personally; especially those facing barriers to completion.
