Wichita State University College of Health Professions is approved as a provider of continuing nursing education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. This course offering has been pre-approved for contact hours applicable for RN, LPN or LMHT relicensure. Kansas State Board of Nursing provider number: LT 0090-0327. This course offering is approved for 4.1 contact hours all for RN or LPN relicensure.
Wichita State University Shool of Social Work is approved as a provider of continuing social work education by the BSRB. This program has been pre-approved by the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board for continuing education for social workers. This course offering is approved for 3.7 contact hours applicable for relicensure (BSRB approval #05-001).
Community Health Worker:
Wichita State University Center for Public Health Initiatives and the Kansas Community Health Worker Coalition is approved as a provider of continuing community health worker education by Kansas Department of Health and Environment. This program has been pre-approved by the Kansas Community Health Worker Coalition for continuing education for Kansas Certified Community Health Workers. This course offering is approved for 5 hours applicable for recertification.

CHWS Travel Stipend Information (Application now Closed)

With sponsorship funding, Wichita State University Community Engagement Institute’s Center for Public Health Initiatives will offer a minimum of thirty (30) stipends to Kansas Community Health Workers (CHWs) to attend the 2022 Kansas CHW Symposium in Wichita, KS on Thursday, June 9, 2022.
Sponsors include Kansas Department of Health and Environment, University of Kansas Medical Center Communities Optimizing to Promote Equity (COPE), Sunflower Health Plan, United Methodist Health Ministries Fund, and United Healthcare.

This stipend honors the important work of grassroots advocates who promote health in their communities. We want to bring your knowledge, expertise, and commitment to the CHW field to the Symposium. Stipend awardees from outside of Wichita will receive funding to help pay for transportation, hotel, and meals based on need presented in the application. Mileage and meals will be available on a reimbursable basis after the Symposium in June and July and after all the required documents are received. Application deadline is Monday, May 31, 2022 at 5pm.
To be eligible for the Kansas CHW Symposium stipend, applicants must:
- Be a Community Health Worker/Promotor(a)/Community Health Representative/Health Promoter/Holistic Care Coordinator in Kansas.
- Be over 18 years of age.
- Send in the full application including the signature page with the signature of the supervisor of the applicant. (Note: This applies to both paid and volunteer positions. If you do not have a supervisor, you can still apply, but please contact Kristina Helmer at email@example.com or (316) 978-5855 for further instruction.)
- Attend the full CHW Symposium on June 9, 2022, from 9am – 4:00 pm*.

The application for CHW travel stipends is limited to Community Health Workers. A community health worker is a frontline public health worker who is a trusted member of and/or has an unusually close understanding of the community served. This trusting relationship enables the worker to serve as a liaison/link/intermediary between health/social services and the community to facilitate access to services and improve the quality and cultural competence of service delivery. A community health worker also builds individual and community capacity by increasing health knowledge and self-sufficiency through a range of activitites such as outreach, community education, informal counseling, social support and advocacy. (APHA 2016).
Each of the individual stipends may include some or all of these items:
- 1-night stay at a hotel or WSU campus on June 8, 2022 (location depends on funding)
- Mileage reimbursement to travel to and from the Symposium (state rate of $0.58 per mile)
- Meals for June 7-8, 2022
Note: Applications will be reviewed by a team and awards will be selected based on the availability of funding and applicant financial need.

Applicants will be notified on or by Friday, June 3, 2022, whether or not they are selected to receive a stipend and which portions are approved. Additional applications will be reviewed upon receipt. Depending upon availability of funds, additional applications received after May 31, 2022, will be reviewed and those selected to receive a stipend will be notified on an ongoing basis.The W-9 form AND mileage reimbursement forms must be forwarded to Kristina. (The forms are attached at the end of this application.) Electronic copies of all these documents are preferred. Please request confirmation that WSU has received them.

Vendor Information (Vendor registration now closed.)
Interested in having a vendor table at the conference? For $100.00 each vendor receives one 6'x30" table and select meal tickets. Meal tickets are limited to two per person for up to two vendor staff. Setup will be from 8:00 - 9:00 am on Thursday, June 9th and your table can be setup until 4:00 pm.
