Spero Builds on First-Year Outcomes with New Class and Expanded Support

After a successful inaugural year, Wichita State University’s Spero program is entering its second year. Spero—Latin for “hope”—helps individuals achieve lasting independence through skill-building and access to meaningful employment. Participants complete employer- and market-oriented training that leads to micro-credentials, making Spero the first micro-credential program in WSU’s history and the first 1EdTech TrustEd Micro-credential program in the world.

Dr. Mark Esposito, an internationally recognized authority on artificial intelligence (AI) and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. His session, “Leading with AI: Mastering AI-Driven Strategy for Market Leadership,” will take place on October 2 from 1:30 p.m.–5:00 p.m. at Woolsey Hall.

WSU Board of Trustees approves feasibility study for dental school in partnership with FHSU

Aug. 7, 2025 — The Wichita State University Board of Trustees has approved up to $750,000 to fund a comprehensive feasibility study exploring the creation of Kansas’ first dental school. This is inclusive of support from Fort Hays State University, a partner in the project, which aims to address the state’s shortage of dentists, particularly in rural communities.

Law enforcement is a family affair for Wichita State sophomore

Aug. 7, 2025 - Gabey Norris grew up watching her father work as a K-9 unit officer for Saline County in central Kansas. That upbringing sparked her interest in law enforcement and led her to Wichita State University. Norris, a sophomore majoring in forensic science, sees many opportunities in law enforcement after exploring the profession through paid applied learning at the Midwest Criminal Justice Institute at Wichita State.
