Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education

Wichita State’s Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in physical education—PreK-12—combines quality, accredited classroom instruction with hands-on learning in both urban and suburban school districts. You’ll also gain practical teaching experience in Kansas’ largest school district—preparing you for a successful career working with children through the promotion of health and fitness.

About the Program

Program Description

Wichita State’s PreK–12 physical education teacher preparation degree program offers a quality education for students desiring a career teaching physical education. The curriculum provides students with a scientific and practical background upon which to base teaching content and methods. The PreK–12 program addresses the importance of a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on the national physical education standards. Students are provided numerous practical experiences to interact with K-12 students in the public schools.

Admission Requirements

Prospective WSU students:

  1. Complete the online admission application.
  2. Students must complete the Teacher Education Application Packet prior to beginning the Teacher Education program. Student are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor to determine eligibility for the Teacher Education program. To schedule an advising appointment, please contact the College of Applied Studies Advising Center at (316) 978-3300, option 2.

Current WSU students: 

  1. WSU students with a 2.50 GPA can change their major to PreK-12 Physical Education through the myWSU portal (Home tab > Student Tools > Change My Major /Minor).
  2. Students must complete the Teacher Education Application Packet prior to beginning the Teacher Education program. Student are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor to determine eligibility for the Teacher Education program. To schedule an advising appointment, please contact the College of Applied Studies Advising Center at (316) 978-3300, option 2.

Both prospective and current athletic training majors are eligible for scholarships through the College of Applied Studies.
