Housing

It is recommended to start looking for apartments and reserve your room well before your arrival (if possible).

Off-Campus Housing - On-Campus Housing

* Most international students select off-campus housing because of cost. International students may also want to connect with one of WSU's many international student organizations.

IME 255 Prerequisite

You can satisfy the IME 255 pre-requisite by one of the following:

  • Pay a $75 fee, take an exit test, and pass with at least 80% points (topic details can be seen at IME 255 Engineering Economy).
    • Scheduled on the last Thursday/Friday before start of Fall and Spring semester or during the first two weeks of those semesters. Please check with me or ISME administrative assistant at least 2 weeks before the start of Fall or Spring semester to schedule quizouts. The fee must be paid at least one week prior to the exam date (exact cash - contact me or ISME administrative assistant for the payment and receipt).
    • Recommended textbook as study material: "Engineering Economy" by Leland Blank and Anthony Tarquin.
    • Recommended video material: Cosmo Learning
  • Take IME 255 course at WSU and pass with a “B” or better grade (3.000 or better GPA on a scale of 4.000).
  • Take IME 255 equivalent course at one of the other institutions in the US that have already been evaluated by us and pass with a “B” or better grade (3.000 or better GPA on a scale of 4.000).

Tuition and Fees

Basic Costs for Graduate Studies

Tuition and Fees

Tuition payment

  • Students are required to pay the full semester tuition and fees before end of the second week of classes unless they have set-up a payment plan (requires an additional fee of $130). See payment plan details.
  • Total tuition and fees with 9 credit hours of registration (including health insurance cost) is approximately $11,000 per semester for international students (as of Spring 2025).
Scholarships and Assistance
  • Global Select Scholarships (GSS) for eligible international students
    • Eligible international students are automatically awarded this scholarship and those students receive an email confirming the same.
    • If you were awarded the GSS (as of Fall 2024), you need to provide funding information for remaining ~$25,500 (compared to $30,800 for others). GSS value of ~$5,600 is based on an enrollment of a total of 18 credit hours (9 in Spring and 9 in Fall semester).
  • Graduate assistantships
    • Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) and Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) opportunities through our department are limited and competitive.
    • You may want to visit with individual professors after your arrival at WSU and discuss how you can add value to their research project. You may also contact them through email with your resume (and other documents as applicable). See a list of faculty members or view IME Faculty research interests
    • Other units (e.g. library, graduate school, and other administrative offices) may also have limited adminstrative graduate assistant (GA) positions. You are welcome to explore available positions by contacting them on your own (typically in-person once you are here on-campus).

International Applicants

Application Steps
  • Follow the link in Step #4 of our application process website, create your account, and complete application form with personal and academic details
  • Submit and pay application fee
  • Go back to your application portal and upload at least your transcripts from all college level degrees e.g. diploma, bachelor's, master's, PhD as applicable. You should upload transcripts for each semester (including repeated courses, if any) as well as consolidated, as applicable.
  • Once you submit your transcripts, our department starts the review process and sends departmental recommendation to WSU Graduate School.
  • WSU Graduate School will review departmental recommendation and other documents, and send our final decision through email. Please add wsugradschool@wichita.edu as trusted sender. If you are using Gmail, it may end up in your "Promotions" folder.
  • If you already uploaded all required documents (see below) and qualified for an admission, Graduate School will prepare your I-20 and send it to you via email address registered in the application portal.
  • If you have not already submitted all the documents required for your admission (including official English proficiency scores meeting the minimum requirements, financial documents (e.g. bank statements/loan documents), and signed certificate of financial support), please do so as soon as possible. WSU cannot finalize your admission without these documents. Please note that our Graduate School issues I-20 forms as soon as possible. However, it may take 1-3 weeks for final review and issuance of your I-20 after all your documents are uploaded through the admission application portal (not through email) and receipt of final admission confirmation through the Graduate School. You can review the list of missing documents through your portal. Please wait for I-20 forms to be issued since requesting them to be expedited will not help it.
Required I-20 Documents

  • Copy of English Proficiency Test Score - IELTS/TOEFL/DUOLINGO/PTE (Details on the Graduate English Proficiency page
  • Certification of Financial Support (CFS)

    • If you were awarded the GSS (as of Fall 2024), you need to provide funding information for remaining ~$26,000 (compared to $32,000 for others). GSS value of ~$5,800 is based on an enrollment of a total of 18 credit hours (9 in Spring and 9 in Fall semester). Please list WSU and other sponsor (as applicable) to reflect your WSU funding on the CFS form (Certification of Financial Support).
    • If you are awarded GA, GRA, or GTA funding, you need to provide funding information for remaining amount (if any) communicated to you via email through the Graduate School. Please list WSU and other sponsor (as applicable) to reflect your WSU funding on the CFS form.

International Flights

If you have friends/relatives in or near places such as California, Colorado (Denver), Florida (e.g. Orlando and Miami), Illinois (Chicago),  Missouri or Kansas (Kansas City), New York, Texas (e.g. Dallas and Houston,) Washington (Seattle), or Washington-DC, you may be able to find a better/cheaper international flight to those locations and book a domestic flight after a day or two from your arrival date in the US. Similarly, you can explore other airports in your country that may have better options than your current location. You could use a travel agent in your home country and/or use websites such as Google flights, Kayak, and Skyscanner.

Airport Pick-up Information
