After-Hours Building Access

According to the WSU Policy and Procedure Manual, University Police are responsible for unlocking exterior doors of university buildings on weekdays and weekends as defined in University Reservations Office. Faculty or staff requiring access to labs, offices and other specially equipped rooms will be unlocked according to Labs, Offices and Other Specialty Equipped Rooms. Special requests and/or questions about unlocking doors should be directed to police@wichita.edu, 316-978-3450.

If you are locked out of a building and need access, be prepared to provide the following information to our dispatcher on duty:

1.  The building you are needing access to.

2.  If the door is an electroniclly locked door or a hard key door.

3.  Your WSU ID number

4.  If you have an interior door key but do not have access through an exterior door, be prepared to provide the key number  of the interiior key and show it to the officer that arrives to open the exterior door.

If our dispatcher cannot verify that you should have access to the requested building, you may be asked to contact your supervisor or instructor for verification.

You will be asked to present your WSU ID by the officer that arrives to open the door for you.

University Police Officers do not unlock office doors unless there is an emergency.  Be prepared to be escorted into and out off the building by officers.

As a general rule, campus buildings are unlocked by 6:00 am, Monday - Friday. Exterior doors are locked by University Housekeeping personnel at the end of classes, or at other arranged times.
