Nursing is in High Demand
Given the rapidly aging population and the increasing need for health services, the
demand for all levels of nursing continues to grow. Wichita State offers several undergraduate
and graduate degrees to help meet this need.
Access and Affordability
April 7, 2026 — Wichita State University has selected two recipients for the Richard D. Smith Scholarship, the university's largest scholarship award. Sallie Longwell of Valley Center, Kansas, and Caroline Love of Norfolk, Nebraska, will receive more than $80,000 over four years.
College of Health Professions
Dec. 9, 2025 — Karlee Scovell came to Wichita State from Overland Park, Kansas. The nursing student will soon be working as an RN in the emergency room at Wesley Medical Center.

Aug. 28, 2025 — Wichita State University is pleased to announce the naming of the Ascension Via Christi Wichita State University School of Nursing, reflecting a decades-long partnership between the university and one of the state’s leading health care providers.
Economic Prosperity
Feb. 10, 2025 — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is investing $2.5 million in Wichita State University, with $1.8 million earmarked as the lead gift to the Wichita Biomedical Campus. The remaining $700,000 will create two endowed Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas nursing scholarships in the WSU College of Health Professions.
Licensed Mental Health Technician Pathway
The Licensed Mental Health Technician pathway at Wichita State prepares students for
entry-level positions to care for patients who are challenged with mental or behavioral
health issues.
