Shocker Experience

Take advantage of the many programs and services offered on the WSU main campus. For $700 per semester, you will have access to the following:

Housing and Residence Life

There are three on-campus housing options: Shocker Hall (freshmen residence hall), The Flats (upperclassmen residence hall) and The Suites (open to any students). Click through any of the previous links to learn more about WSU's on-campus housing options!

Students interested in living on campus must register for two consecutive semesters of Shocker Experience. Students are responsible for the housing rate selected. Students must be approved for the Shocker Experience program before being eligible to complete the housing application form. Visit the Housing and Residence Life website.

YMCA membership

You will have access to all nine Wichita-area YMCA locations through a free membership.

Athletic Tickets and Fine Arts Performances

You can get access to one free student ticket per athletic event and each fine arts performance. Cheer on any athletic team including but not limited to volleyball, baseball, softball and basketball! If you enjoy musical or theatre performances, the School of Performing Arts offers a full season of events.

Student Health Services

Student Health Services offers convenient and affordable on-campus care. There are a wide range of services available including check-ups, preventative care, acute illness management and treatment of minor injuries. Our on-site lab and medication services will also save you time and money.

Counseling Services

Counseling and Prevention Services provides low-cost quality mental health services by licensed providers to all WSU and WSU Tech students. Call 316-978-4SWC (4792) to schedule an appointment. Appointments are available during regular business hours on the main campus, and limited hours are available at the downtown and south campuses. Campus Recreation

Get involved in intramural sports, sport clubs and a variety of fitness classes. Take advantage of the Heskett Center that has basketball courts, 25 meter pool and diving well, 25 ft. climbing wall, weight room, cardio room, tennis courts, racquetball and squash courts, and much more.

Student Engagement, Advocacy and Leadership

Check out all the ways to get involved including Civic Engagement, Leadership, Service-Learning, Student Government Association and hundreds of student organizations. Basically, get in on all the fun activities our campus has to offer.

Ablah Library

Wichita State University Libraries offers access to over one million print volumes, large databases and other special online resources, study spaces, and research support services. Visit the Ablah Library website.

The Creation Space (C-Space) is an area for collaboration and experimentation where WSU students, faculty, and staff can come together to learn new things and work with advanced media technologies on a variety of projects. C-Space promotes a superior user experience through innovative services that support the educational, cultural, and research needs of the University and its community partners.

Child Development Center

As a member of the Shocker Student Experience you have the opportunity to apply to our Child Development Center which serves children six weeks through six years of age, and is open to WSU students, staff, faculty and alumni. We have a strong commitment to families within our Center that may be trying to place another child; these families receive priority. The enrollment process continues as follows: currently enrolled families, students, faculty/staff and then alumni. Community members are eligible if there is no current wait list for that age group.

Child Development Center Discounts

Our Child Development Center offers the highest quality child care and early child development services to our WSU community at an affordable price. Your child will receive a lesson plan tailored to their learning style and your involvement is encouraged.

Commuter Meal Plan

The Shocker Card is your all access pass to dining at Wichita State. A variety of meal plan options are available to WSU students, faculty and staff at WSU making it a fast and convenient way to purchase meals at multiple locations across campus.

Shocker Dollars can be purchased directly from WSU Dining Services office located in the Rhatigan Student Center room 235.


GoCreate is a premier makerspace open to creators of all ages and experiences. The 18,000-square-foot space offers sophisticated tools and equipment — beyond the reach of most DIYers — expert training, and a supportive community that can help make your prototypes, projects and dreams come true. You only need a membership, an idea and the will to make it happen. Students can visit to purchase a membership or to apply for membership assistance.

Rhatigan Student Center

The Rhatigan Student Center (RSC) is the home to six different eateries including: Shocker Grill and Lanes; Starbucks, Pizza Hut, Chick-Fil-A, Panda Express, and Freddy’s, as well as a whole host of services. As a member of the Shocker Student Experience, you will be able to reserve rooms in the RSC.

Shocker Store

Our students have access to rent text books through the University Bookstore. Shocker rewards program for additional savings. In addition, students are eligible for a Dell discount when purchased through the bookstore.

Shock Stop

Wichita State University has teamed with local businesses to form Shock Stop, a university discount program. Students, faculty, staff and innovation partners with a valid shocker ID can receive a minimum 10 percent discount at participating merchants.

Participating merchants will display the Shock Stop window cling at their storefront. To receive the discount, simply present your Shocker ID at the time of purchase.

The Sunflower

Our students have access to a printed copy of our student-run newspaper to keep up with the latest campus happenings. The Sunflower can also be found online through their website or on Facebook.

Hourly parking is available in the garage next to the Rhatigan Student Center for $1.50/hour. Free parking is available at the Metroplex (29th and Oliver). From there, you can grab the shuttle to campus. Visit the WSU parking website.
