Overview of CAR

Campus Activities & Recreation was founded in June of 2022, following a merger of longtime campus partners Campus Recreation and Student Activities. This merger allows for a greater impact on the campus community in providing inclusive and creative programs that serve to shape the Shocker Experience.

The staff and student leaders of CAR take great pride in connecting students with programs that are active, educational, cultural, and social in nature. We promote unity, teamwork, and friendly competition through programs like Intramurals, Sport Clubs, and Shocker Rowing. Students can develop essential career related skills through the planning of events in our Student Activities Council. Beyond our direct programs we coordinate we offer many spaces and places for students to create their own experience on our outdoor fields, outdoor courts, Heskett Center facilities, ESports Hub, and venture downtown to Boats & Bikes for adventure on the Arkansas River.

CAR has something for everyone including opportunities for applied learning, certification, and leadership development through our many student employment opportunities including officiating sports programs, score keeping, training through a team lead position, equipment maintenance, and guest services.

Beyond the student experience we are also an active partner to the Wichita community and work with our local Boys & Girls Club, Parkinson's Club, Shocker Neighborhood Coalition, and many K-12 programs. This dedication to the community welcomes Shockers of all ages to campus and allows our students hands on training in sports related programs and event management.
