Student Body President Khan Appoints Interim Student Body Treasurer

Student Body President Rija Khan has signed an executive order authorizing the formation of the Task Force on the Black Student Experience. The goal for this Task Force is to have Black student leaders discuss issues faced by our Black students and give recommendations to the Association for tangible change that can create a more just, welcoming and engaging student experience for our Black Students on campus

Following the passage of Senate Resolution-63-003: Declaration of an Association State of Emergency by the Student Senate, President Khan has issued Executive Order 003 on Thursday, May 28, officially declaring the Student Government Association to be in a State of Emergency and authorizing the formation of the Emergency Legislative Council; which will serve as the Acting Senate.

Eight minutes and forty-six seconds. That is how long Derek Chauvin, a white Minneapolis police officer, knelt on George Floyd’s neck on May 25, leading to his death. Floyd’s death is yet another in a long line of senseless murders committed against members of the black community.

University President, Dr. Jay Golden, has approved the Fiscal Year 2021 Student Activity Fee portion of the Student Fees after gaining approval by the Student Senate and Student Body President Rija Khan. President Golden will bring forward the updates to the Kansas Board of Regents.

Due to circumstances regarding COVID-19, Wichita State University has made the difficult decision to continue online and/or remote instruction through the end of the semester, and not resuming in-person classes. Wichita State University is focused on restricting on-campus visitations and limited operations to promote social distancing practices. The Wichita State University Student Government Association Elections Commission has officially ended the formal Declaration of Candidacy process. The Commission is excited about this upcoming election season to elect the members of the 63rd Student Government Association Session and the amount of candidates who have dedicated themselves to running and potentially serving the student body.

President Miller received and accepted the resignation of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Chairman, Aaron Mounts. Senator Mounts announced his resignation during the Senate meeting on January 29th and formally submitted a resignation letter on February 4, 2020 effective February 5, 2020.

The Student Senate approves the establishment and funding of the McKinney-Vento Scholarship by unanimous vote.

The Shocker Support Locker has been approached with the opportunity to receive a $14,000 contribution from the Pepsi Co brand. The partnership was solidified in early October by Gabriel Fonseca, of SGA, Rich Renollet, of Shocker Sports Grill and Lanes, and Nicole Wentz, a representative from Pepsi Co.
