Many statistics exist to demonstrate the impact of the Shocker Success Center in its first year. For sophomore Shamarie Hanna, the importance of the building is also about its welcoming spaces and helpful atmosphere.
“So many resources and so many ways to get work done,” said Hanna, who is majoring in biological sciences with a biomedical emphasis with a minor in chemistry. “This space is amazing. There are so many ways of socializing or connecting with different people.”
The Shocker Success Center, formerly Clinton Hall, opened in fall 2024. It brought 18 campus resources, previously housed in 12 buildings, into one building, located in the heart of campus and linked by sidewalk to the Rhatigan Student Center and Ablah Library.
“We’re in one place. You will see students at the front desk, and we can walk students wherever they need to go,” said Aaron Hamilton, director of OneStop Student Services. “Students have a place to be, and we’re seeing that even more this fall. They’ve taken ownership of it.”
Those services are:
- Office of Adult Learning
- Career Closet
- Military and Veteran Services
- OneStop Student Services
- Office of Civil Rights, Title IX & ADA Compliance Training
- Office of Student Accommodations and Testing

Year one: By the numbers
The Shocker Success Center totaled 38,468 visits, tracked by student IDs, in the 2024-25 academic year. Visits to OneStop increased from 3,934 in 2024 to 6,019 in 2025. In the Shocker Learning Center, visits increased from 2,196 in 2023-24 to 7,705 in 2024-25. Adult Learning numbers rose from 502 (2023-24) to 1,005 (2024-25).
The impact of the Shocker Success Center is seen in the increased traffic and in how the convenience encourages staff members to work together while helping students.
“Staffs are able to form synergistic, collaborative partnerships in new ways,” said Brett Bruner, associate vice provost for Student Success and Persistence. “When I talk to Pamela O’Neal (associate director of student engagement in the Office of Online and Adult Learning) she says she can build synergy with the offices that are right across the hall, versus being in 12 different places.”
Hamilton oversees first-year advising for freshmen and collaborates with the Office of Student Accommodations and Testing. That collaboration is more productive now that it is often in-person instead of via email or phone.
“It gives us a chance to be together,” Hamilton said. “We can work as a team to make sure we are providing the best service to that student.”
Paul SuellentropWSU’s tutoring centers (Shocker Learning Center, Physics Help Desk, Math Lab, Writing Center) see significant increased visits in the Shocker Success Center.
Their appointments rose by 166% to 11,494 from the 2023-24 academic year. The number of unique student visits increased by 93% to 6,792 appointments.
“The tutoring numbers sky-rocketed,” Bruner said. “It goes back to those referrals within the building. A student may be stopping into Adult Learning, and they can walk them down the hall. You come in for one thing and you realize there are 17 other resources here that I can also conveniently take advantage of.”
Hanna, who is from Nassau, Bahamas, uses the tutoring services, the study spaces and enjoys the Lego station that provides a break from computer screens. Tech Help is available for computer and internet questions. The Office of International Education moved to the center of campus from the corner of 17th and Hillside.
“That’s been so efficient and convenient,” he said. “I don’t have to walk far anymore just to receive information.”
Hanna, as the Shocker Success Center appointments indicate, is one of many students who finds the new Shocker Success Center a helpful part of their college career.
