June 2025 Insights: Supporting Student Well-Being

Even during the quieter summer months, our CARE Team remains committed to supporting student well-being. June gave us opportunities to stay connected and ensure resources were available for those who needed them. Every report helps us respond early and maintain a safe, caring campus environment.

Overview of Reports and Concerns

24 CARE reports were submitted, representing 24 unique students. These reports help us identify and respond to concerns early. Mental health continues to be an important area of focus, particularly related to distress, which can negatively impact a student’s ability to persist in classes.

A common concern often reported in the summer months include students facing lack of access to basic needs. 40% of students reported to the CARE Team disclosed housing instability, food insecurity, or familial concerns resulting in direct barriers to having their needs met. Our top referrals included the Shocker Support Locker, United Way, and other local food pantries.

While the number of reports is consistent with previous months, these insights remind us of the value of proactive engagement and accessible resources.

Action Steps for Students

We encourage all students to take advantage of the resources available to support mental health and overall well-being:

  1. Reach Out Early: If you’re experiencing challenges with housing, food, or family-related concerns, don’t wait – reach out for support. The CARE Team can connect you with resources both on campus and in the community. Taking the first step can help remove barriers and keep you on track academically and personally.
  2. Use Campus Resources:
    Shocker Support Locker (on campus)
United Way of the Plains (off campus)
  3. Stay Connected: Building a strong support network can make a difference. Engage with student organizations and wellness activities.

Your well-being matters. If you ever feel unsafe or overwhelmed, please seek help immediately. Together, we can create a safer, healthier campus community.
