Students are at the center of our work. The Specialized Advisors are committed to supporting student success, which is defined differently by every student. We provide "wrap-around" services (think of it as individualized support) intended to positively contribute to your overall student success, both in and out of the classroom.
Wrap-around services to our students include:
- clarifying academic and personal goals
- connecting students to critical and timely resources on campus and in the community
- assisting with time management, organization and study skills
- actively reaching out to help students persist to graduation.

Specialized Advising Departments
The Office of Adult Learning is committed to serving adult students at Wichita State University. Whether you are finishing a degree, changing your course to another option, or beginning a new path, we are here to help every step of the way. The Office of Adult Learning offers a variety of student-centered programs to support you in your educational journey including, but not limited to: Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society, Osher Reentry Scholarship Program, and Adult Mentoring Advantage Program (A-MAP). In addition, we offer a free coffee bar, free black and white printing, a student lounge, and resource room with space for group or individual study time.
The Office of Disability Services (ODS) provides individuals with learning, mental or physical disabilities an equal opportunity to attain their academic and personal goals to the fullest of their abilities. Our office hours are Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. If you qualify for ODS serivces and are not currently registered with ODS, please go to the following page to start the intake process.
The Engineering Student Success Center (ESSC) at Wichita State University supports students as they enter the College of Engineering and persist toward an undergraduate degree. In partnership with engineering faculty and staff, the ESSC provides a personalized approach by offering a wide range of support to help students achieve their academic and personal goals. Some of our programs and services include:
- Campus and school visits for prospective students
- Dual advising for transfer students
- Academic advising for Undecided Engineering majors
- GEEKS Tutoring and Academic Success Center
- Diversity and inclusion initiatives
- College of Engineering student organizations and social events
- College of Engineering scholarships
- New student mentoring programs

The Office of International Education serves the international student population throughout their academic career at Wichita State University.
Our services include:
- Advising regarding immigration regulations, work authorization, and maintaining status.
- Document processing required for academic transfer, travel, or student-related matters.
- Helping to connect students with university and community resources

The mission of the Military and Veteran Services is to assist military members, veterans, and their dependents in utilizing education benefits provided thru the VA. We provide information on educational programs, the application process, and the certification required for using these benefits. The center has information on other VA services, employment and support services provided by the university. We also have a lounge, computer labs, free printing and study areas. Students are encouraged to join our Student Veteran Organization which provides peer support, community service, promotion of programs sponsored by the organization and networking with other student groups on and off campus. Our staff is dedicated to providing specialized counseling and support of our student veteran population to ensure their success at Wichita State University.
The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) aims to cultivate and sustain an inclusive campus that strives for academic excellence by creating an environment that educates, empowers and mobilizes our students, campus and Greater Wichita community. The office provides dynamic programs, which range from speakers and film showings to award ceremonies, cultural festivities and LGBTQA programming — each representing a small piece of the diversity displayed on the WSU campus. In addition, we offer academic and social support for first-generation and underrepresented students, such as free one-on-one tutoring, access to check out laptops, and guidance from either a peer or professional mentor.
At Wichita State University, we strive to foster a community of care and support for student success by cultivating a holistic approach to our work. Through the CARE Team, WSU offers a centralized -location to collect information, assess concerns and provide resources to support our students during their time of need. Our goal is to assist students in distress so that they do not feel alone in the process.
Students define success differently. Student Success helps students maximize their academic potential and reach their personal goals through a range of programs and services, regardless of personal background. Our services include: Success Coaching, Academic Success Programs (tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, peer coaching), First-Year Programs (Orientation and transition events), and Student Money Management.
TRIO Disability Support Services (DSS) assists first-generation and/or limited income undergraduate students who have learning, physical, and psychological disabilities. Among the services we provide are academic support, tutoring, study/life skills workshops, free printing and other services that enable our students to persist and graduate from Wichita State University.
The McNair Scholars program, names in honor of Dr. Ronal E. McNair, Space Shuttle Challenger crew member, encourages qualified college sophomores, juniors, and seniors to pursue graduate studies. In particular, students are provided opportunities and skills that will help prepare and encourage them to pursue doctoral studies an ultimately obtain careers as university and college professors. This program is 100% funded by the Department of Education.
