Wichita Biomedical Campus groundbreaking ceremony

Hundreds of people gathered on May 8 to celebrate the start of Phase One construction on the new Wichita Biomedical Campus, a $300 million, 471,000-square-foot joint health sciences center in the heart of downtown Wichita. The campus will combine WSU’s College of Health Professions programs, including its Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic, WSU Tech’s Health Professions programs and the Wichita campuses of KU School of Medicine and KU School of Pharmacy — all into one location. Pooling the collective resources and successes of our institutions will bring remarkable opportunities for collaboration, innovation and research.

Physician Assistant faculty and student work on simulation manikin

WSU's College of Health Professions and Ascension Via Christi's Wichita hospitals announced the creation of a strategic initiative to provide a critical pipeline of qualified health care professionals to the region. The affiliation will provide a framework for WSU and Ascension Via Christi to help fuel the pipeline of trained health care professionals entering the field and further enhance professional growth opportunities for current and future Ascension Via Christi associates and WSU students.

Students and faculty work on a simulation manikin

The College of Health Professions continues its strategic initiative to provide cutting-edge educational experiences through simulation technology. The College has developed a human simulation laboratory, which includes synthetic models, high fidelity manikins and a microanatomy/microscopy room. The simulation lab is envisioned as a partner to our Gross Anatomy lab, one of only two anatomy labs in the greater Wichita area that use human cadavers and is one of the largest labs of its kind in the state of Kansas.
