Wichita State University’s Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) is an online degree program designed for students with well-defined career goals, offering flexibility for those who wish to customize their degree program, rather than pursue a specialized degree.

General Studies online program requirements

Both General Studies degree pathways include the WSU General Education and College of Liberal Arts & Sciences course graduation requirements. While in the program, students will need to complete 120 credit hours prior to graduation.

Bachelor of General Studies

The BGS prepares you to enter a wide variety of occupations with the availability of multiple concentrations.

No foreign language requirement

94 credit hours from LAS

Major Area Requirement: 33 credit hours (minimum)

  • 12 credit hours in concentration must be courses numbered 300 or above.
  • 15-21 credit hours in Primary LAS department.
  • 6-9 credit hours in Secondary LAS department.
  • 6-9 credit hours in Secondary OPEN department.

Bachelor of Arts Field Major

The Field Major (BA) program at WSU is the BGS plus foreign language proficiency – which can give students a competitive edge.

Foreign language requirement

100 credit hours from LAS

Major Area Requirement: 36 credit hours (minimum)

  • 12 credit hours in concentration must be courses numbered 300 or above.
  • 18 credit hours in Primary LAS department.
  • 9 credit hours in Secondary LAS department.
  • 9 credit hours in Secondary OPEN department
